Goran Lennmarker: Armenian President was ready to solve the Nagorno Karabakh problem in 2008

He said both sides must have political will and political preparedness so that the conflict is solved.
“There must be a compromise. The territories adjacent to Nagorno Karabakh have been occupied, Armenian troops must be withdrawn, corridor established between Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. After that all the internally displaced persons from Nagorno Karabakh and the adjacent regions must return home. Armenian refugees must also return to Azerbaijan. The status of Nagorno Karabakh must be determined in the end,†he said.
Goran Lennmarker said the status of Nagorno Karabakh must be determined in future.
“There exists European practice with this regard. Temporary status of any disputable territory is determined, the status is easily determined in the end. The resolution of this conflict consists of several steps. We always say that it is impossible to solve several problems simultaneously. Therefore, the issue of the status must be kept for future. The resolution of the conflict requires will of the two societies and politicians,†he said.
Lennmarker also said that Armenian President was ready to solve the problem when Turkey-Armenia borders were being iscussed in 2008.
“But the Armenian Diaspora impeded it and it failed. If Turkey-Armenia borders had been opened, it would have positive influence on the solution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict,†he said.
