Baku – APA. Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement concerning the ideas expressed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy during his visit to Armenia. Turkey is surprised and angry with the Sarkozy’s statement that urges Turkey to recognize so-called “Armenian genocide” till the end of the year, the statement reads.

“Third parties use misunderstandings between Turkey and Armenia for own domestic political interests and even coordinate it with the election schedules in their country. It proves their wrong thoughts about their political power. French people will decide how appropriate are these election-minded approaches to the culture of democracy and statehood traditions in France. Biased approach and political statements condemning the historic events are injustice and it shows that those people are not aware of the Turkey’s position towards this issue. This painful phase of our common history with the Armenians is freely discussed in Turkey, contrary to some countries, including France. Turkey will continue its constructive position to improve relations with Armenia and to solve historic disputes over the 1915 events. We want France to have positive impact on this process, to approach Turkey-Armenia relations with sensitiveness and to avoid actions which can offend the Turkish people and Turks living in France”.
