French President starts visit to South Caucasus region

APA reports quoting the press service of the French President that at first Sarkozy visited Armenia.

A meeting with Armenian Catholicos Garegin II in Echmiadzin and visit to the memorial complex erected in memory of victims of fictitious â€œArmenian genocideâ€ are included to the visit program of the French president. French President will lay a wreath on the memorial, and plant a tree around it. Tomorrow Sarkozy will have one-on-one meeting with Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, then they will hold a joint press conference. French President will participate on the solemn opening ceremony of Charles Aznavour House and make a speech in â€œPlace de Franceâ€ square.

On October 7 he will leave Armenia for Azerbaijan. A meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the residence in Zagulba and participation in the groundbreaking ceremony of French lyceum in Baku are included to his visit program in Azerbaijan. The clause on visiting the Alley of Honor and Alley of Martyrs was not shown in the visit program of the French President.

French President, who will leave Azerbaijan for Georgia, will meet with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili and deliver a speech in Liberty Square.

Minister of Industry, Energy and the Digital Economy Eric Besson, State Minister for Cooperation Henri de Raincourt, Minister for Transport Thierry Mariani, French Foreign Ministryâ€™s State Secretary for European Affairs Pierre Lellouche will accompany Sarkozy during his visit to the South Caucasus region.
