Alexander Khloponin: “Nagorno Karabakh conflict concerns everyone and everyone wants the soonest peaceful settlement of this conflict”

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander Khloponin met with professors and students of Baku Slavic University. APA reports that university’s rector Kamal Abdulla emphasized close cultural relations between Russia and Azerbaijan: “The Russian language maintains its active function, the newspapers and magazines are published, the TV programs are prepared in Russian”. Rector said that Baku Slavic University was an important element of humanitarian cooperation with Russia, and added that the university was cooperating with Moscow State Linguistics University, Moscow Pedagogical University, several institutes of Stavropol and Pyatigorsk.

Khloponin informed the participants about development perspectives of Russia’s Caucasian region, the strategy of economic development of Caucasus till 2025, the tourism opportunities of this region. He underlined that as a strategic partner, the Baku Slavic University is important in the development of cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Russia: “Azerbaijan is a strategic partner that we will strengthen potential of relations with. We must carry out exchanges of students and delegation, as well as implement joint economical projects for strengthening our relations”.

Answering the students’ questions, Khloponin touched on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “This conflict concerns everyone and everyone wants the soonest peaceful settlement of this conflict”. He said that he discussed this issue at the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
