According to APA, the Georgian ambassador emphasized that the territorial integrity of his country is still violated by Russia. He said everything belonging to Georgians and Georgia was prohibited in Russian-occupied South Ossetia and Abkhazia. “Even they banned praying in Georgian language in the South Ossetian church”.

Characterizing the governments of Ossetia and Abkhazia as puppet regimes ruled by Russia, Sharashenidze reminded that Moscow gave Russian passports to the local residents. “This step is a sign of annexationist intention by Russia. The invasion in Georgia in August, 2008 targeted the Georgia’s plans to join NATO and EU. Georgia carries out Trans-Caucasian transport corridor and transnational energy projects together with Azerbaijan and Moscow’s invasion aimed to eliminate these plans”.

Teymuraz Sharashenidze said Russia gears itself for new war against Georgia and preparatory work in the occupied territories proves the Russian plans. Russia’s recognition of South Ossetian and Abkhazian independence is a challenge to the international community, said the ambassador and added that Georgian people have a strong will to restore the territorial integrity of their country. Touching upon the Russian military base in Armenia, Sharashenidze said any military base in the region threatens it. “While stating that the war with Georgia is a lesson for Armenia and Azerbaijan, Medvedev made it clear what can Moscow give to the peoples of the region as a mediator”.
