Against the background of the traditionally good neighborly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, which are further solidified by the common interests of the two states on a number of strategic issues, killing of an innocent civilian by the individual representative of the law-enforcement agencies represents an especially despicable act. We believe that a citizen of a neighbor state, who accidentally ends up on the other side of the border of a friendly state, should not be shot on defeat. The Georgian side demands a thorough and timely investigation of this incident. We are confident that the Azerbaijani side will undertake all the necessary measures to punish the perpetrators in full accordance with the law.

On the 14th of April, 2010 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mr. David Jalagania has met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia H.E. Mr. Namig Hasan oglu Aliev.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expresses its sympathy and conveys its condolences to the Ibragim Gaorgashvili’s family.
In turn, the press service of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan has earlier made a statement on prevention in Balakan district an attempt to cross the state border from Georgia.

The statement says that the border squad nailed a group of three trespassers, who didn’t react to the order of soldiers on point duty "Stop!" as well as a shot in air. The trespassers tried to cross the border threatening border guards with a cold steel.

Then the Azerbaijani border guards opened the destruction fire, as a result one of the trespassers was wounded, the statement says.
