Azerbaijanâ€™s Foreign Minister receives PACE President

Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijanâ€™s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Cavusoglu, the ministryâ€™s press service told APA. The minister said Azerbaijan was closely cooperating with PACE and noted that the cooperation covered a number of spheres and produced effective results.

Giving information about the negotiations on the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Elmar Mammadyarov underlined that the conflict could be solved only within the framework of Azerbaijanâ€™s territorial integrity. The minister said it would help establish peace and security in the region and underlined that the world community should increase attention to the issue. He especially noted the efforts of PACE.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said PACE appreciated the processes of democratization in Azerbaijan and would continue to support the processes. Mevlut Cavusoglu noted resolution #1416 on Nagorno Karabakh conflict adopted by PACE on January 25, 2005, and said the activity of the subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh was an urgent issue in the PACE political committee. He said the subcommittee was expected to restore functioning and expressed his hope that it would have positive influence on the settlement of the conflict.

The sides also exchanged views on the other issues of mutual interest.
