GÃ¼nther Oettinger: â€œAzerbaijan and the EU have developed a strong relationship on energy issues over timeâ€

Progress on the Southern corridor will be high on the agenda", said the European Union Commissioner for Energy, GÃ¼nther Oettinger, who will arrive today evening for a one-day-visit to Baku.
Commissioner Oettinger will meet H.E. President Ilham Aliyev, Minister of Industry and Energy, Mr. Natiq Aliyev, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov, as well as top representatives of SOCAR and oil companies in Baku to discuss energy issues including energy security for Azerbaijan and the EU and gas pipelines projects, said the EU Office in Baku in its press release.
Commissioner Oettinger will also visit Sangachal Oil and Gas Terminal and will hold discussions with representatives of SOCAR and European oil companies in Baku.

The new European Commission, including Energy Commissioner GÃ¼nther Oettinger, took office on 10 February 2010. This is his first visit to Azerbaijan as European Energy Commissioner.

Mr Oettinger visited Baku in 2009 in his earlier capacity as Prime Minister of the Land of Baden-WÃ¼rttemberg.
