Morningstar will hold discussions on energy with Azerbaijani officials exchanging opinion on US support and cooperation for development of diversification of oil and gas transportation routes from the region to the European and global market.

He is expected to meet with Azerbaijani President. Richard Morningstar will also hold meetings in the Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Industry and Energy.

Richard Morningstar arrived in Georgia on January 12 to attend the energy summit in Batumi. He held several closed meetings with Georgian officials in Tbilisi. The format of the energy summit was changed and the international energy conference was held instead of it. Richard Morningstar did not attend the conference and left Tbilisi for Baku.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appointed Ambassador Morningstar a Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy last year for providing the Secretary with strategic advises on political issues related to the development, transit and distribution of the Eurasian energy resources. During his previous visits to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Morningstar said US supported Nabucco gas pipeline project and other initiatives which would guarantee energy security in Europe and long-term development, independence and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
