U.S. and Norwegian embassies in Azerbaijan jointly call upon the government to fully investigate the incidents in Bananyar village

Baku. Victoria Dementyeva â€“ APA. U.S. and Norwegian embassies in Azerbaijan released a statement on their representativesâ€™ visit to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The statement reads: â€œThe Norwegian Embassy and U.S. Embassy have raised with the Government of Azerbaijan concerns about the situation in the Nakhchivani village of Bananyar. In an effort to better understand the situation, diplomats from both embassies traveled to Bananyar Jan. 13, but a group stopped their vehicle as it entered the village, verbally threatened them and forced them to leave before any contacts with village residents were made. We jointly call upon the government to fully investigate the incidents in Bananyar village and to provide protection to foreign diplomats working in Azerbaijanâ€.

While commenting on the statement, Spokesman for Azerbaijanâ€™s Foreign Ministry Elkhan Polukhov noted that necessary investigations were carried out related to Bananyar events.

Touching upon the maintenance of security of diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan, Polukhov stated that Azerbaijan fully implemented all commitments in this regard.
