US and Europe offer firm support for normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations

Yerevan â€“ APA. U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden had a phone talk with Armenian President Serzh Sarkissian, APA reports. The White House press service said Biden welcomed announcement from Armenia and Turkey of a breakthrough in normalizing ties.
â€œThe Vice President applauded President Sarkisian’s leadership, and underscored the administration’s firm support for both Armenia and Turkey in this process,â€ the statement said.

Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, also welcomed the statement setting out the framework for the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia and called it good news for Europe.
â€œI call on both parties to proceed with the agreed roadmap, and normalize relations in the near term,â€ he said.
Solana said the EU will offer its support in this context.
