Council of Europe to hold Conflict Prevention Conference

Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. A conference on conflict prevention in the countries of the Council of Europe will be held in Strasbourg on September 24-25, 2009, Matthew Walsh, assistant to the chairman of PACE subcommittee on early warning systems and conflict prevention in Europe, told APA. There will be three areas of discussions: clarification of the concepts of early warning conflict prevention, existing early warning arrangements and what needs to be done. The European parliamentarians expected to touch upon the Nagorny Karabakh problem as well. Members of PACE, Members of National Parliaments, various international parliamentary assemblies, international governmental representatives, representatives of NGO’s, and think tanks will be invited to the discussions. Walsh said the subcommittee would hold its next meeting on April 30, 2009 in Strasbourg.

The PACE subcommittee on early warning systems and conflict prevention in Europe was established after the Russian-Georgian war. The subcommittee if headed by British parliamentarian David Wilshire.
