Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev: â€œRussia is Azerbaijanâ€™s friend and strategic partnerâ€

â€œWe gained very good results in economic-commercial sphere last year. Trade turnover increased 40 percent. Of course, 2009 will be a little complicated. Our duty is to preserve these results. We will continue making efforts to preserve such positive economic dynamics even in economic crisis. Cultural-humanitarian relations are extending between our countries. Information center and branch of Moscow State University have recently opened in Baku. Center of the Azerbaijani Language and Culture has opened in Moscow, this also has positive influence on our relations,â€ he said.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said the relations between the two countries were developing, the personal relations of the presidents played not the least role in this process.
â€œDynamic development in our relations contributes both to mutual economic and political activity. Of course, global crisis had an impact on the increase of the trade turnover, but despite this, the dynamics of the trade turnover had been very good by 2009. We are approaching $3 billion. We believe that we will improve cooperation in other spheres, too. Russia is Azerbaijanâ€™s friend, neighbor and strategic partner. We hope we will continue our cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnershipâ€.
