Azerbaijan posts 9-fold growth in exports

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover with 135 nations during January-November 2008 totaled $53.5 billion, including exports of $47 billion (87.9%) and imports of $6.5 billion (12.1%), said the State Statistical Committee.
The trade surplus was $40.5 billion.
Compared to the same period of 2007, foreign trade turnover rose 5.1 times, imports rose 29.7% and exports increased by 8.6-fold.
Azerbaijan carried out 53.3% of the trade with the European Union, 6.9% with the CIS countries and 39.8% with other countries.
The country did 59.5% of the trade with Europe, 25.1% with Asia, 14.9% with Americas, 0.5% with Africa and 0.02% with Oceania.
The country’s main trade partners in imports and exports (81.1%) included Italy, the United States, Israel, India, France, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Chile.
