Azerbaijan holds public discussion on the refund of USSR-era bank savings

Baku. Elnur Huseynguluev - APA-Economics. The International Relations Research Center has today hosted public discussions on the refund of the lost Soviet-era bank savings to the population.
Supported by Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation, the project was launched on August 1.
Project manager Rufiz Gonagov said all members of Azeri parliament was appealed about the refund of the lost bank savings.
â€œOur goal is to accelerate the settlement of this issue because it is not possible for the older generation to wait any longer and some already died,â€ he added.
Gonagov noted that 1 ruble was suggested to be in equivalent to U.S $1. in the indexation of deposits previously.
â€œHowever, the issue became the subject of serious debate and the final decision has not made yet. To this end, our organization is studying the experience of Russia and Ukraine", he said.
Economist expert Vugar Bayramov noted that the refund of deposits should be a phased process.
