The 27th session of the General Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) member states was held in Baku on June 23, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
The event was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis and head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PUIC Rafael Huseynov.
In his opening remarks, Rafael Huseynov stated that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was one of the first international organizations Azerbaijan joined after restoring its independence. He emphasized that the people and state of Azerbaijan will always remember with gratitude the position of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as one of the international organizations that consistently supported the country during the period when it was under occupation. Rafael Huseynov noted that the PUIC is an important platform for discussing issues of interest to the member states of the organization.
Speaking afterwards, PUIC Secretary General Mohammed Khuraichi Niass stressed the importance of cooperation, dialogue, and mutual understanding within the framework of the organization. The Secretary General highly appreciated the organizational efforts of the host country and expressed confidence that the meeting would be remembered for productive discussions, decisions, and recommendations.
During the meeting, the organization's financial report for 2025 was approved, and draft budget proposals for the following year were reviewed.
As part of organizational matters, participants reviewed the draft updated agenda of the 20th session of the PUIC Conference and adopted relevant decisions.
