The European Court of Human Rights has delivered rulings in several cases concerning Georgia, APA's local bureau reports.
Among them is the case of "Malachini and Others v. Russia", which concerns crimes committed during the August 2008 war.
According to the court's ruling, Russia violated Articles 2 (right to life) and 3 (prohibition of torture) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Within the framework of the case, the Strasbourg court held Russia responsible for the torture and killing of Georgia's National Hero Giorgi Antsukhelidze and other Georgian servicemen.
The court ordered Russia to pay compensation to the families of the servicemen for moral damage within three months of the decision coming into force.
The amount of compensation was set at 65,000 euros for the family of Giorgi Antsukhelidze and for the families of each of the two other servicemen.
It should be noted that the lawsuit was submitted to the Strasbourg court by the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association.
Recall that Giorgi Antsukhelidze (1984–2008) was a participant in the 2008 Russia–Georgia war. He died as a result of torture while in captivity and was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia.
