Meeting on works in the direction of construction of POS-terminals held in Azerbaijan
Ministry says officials of Ministries of Taxes, Economic Development, Transport, Communication and Information Technologies, including Central Bank of Azerbaijan, representatives of bank and business sector attended the meeting.
Increase of cashless payments, enlargement of usage of plastic cards in the accounts on sale and purchase operations, as well works conducted on the construction of POS-terminals were discussed at the meeting. Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov informed about the fulfilment condition of tasks given by President Ilham Aliyev on cashless operations. It was noted that, a special headquarter was established to control all these works. As a result of the activity of this headquarter, establishment of coordinated works, as well talks with processing centres, simplifying of the registration, installation and application of POS-terminals will support to provide the trade and service objects with POS-terminals and achieved serious changes in a short run.
More than 17,000 POS-terminals were registered in 14,000 objects from February to May 15. Generally, installation of POS-terminals in hotels, trade, catering, recreation and entertainment objects, taxis, petrol stations, medical and pharmacological objects and other objects was completed. At present, 30,940 active POS-terminals were registered in 26,443 objects, which 93.7% or 28,976 of them are in Baku.
Installation of POS-terminals is also underway at transport sector. Currently, POS-terminals have been installed in more than 830 taxis. Along with support the integration into international transaction system, POS-terminals give chance to its users to read plastic cards on foreign bank accounts.
Moreover, special Plan of Measures has been developed in connection with stimulation of cashless payments, as well as informing and enlightment of population on use of POS-terminals. Within the framework of this Plan, above 30,000 booklets on advantages of cashless calculations, payment cards and POS-terminals have been prepared and distributed to relevant bodies. In order to agitate the advantages of cashless calculations, media opportunities have been mobilized, advertising charts had been prepared, and propaganda had been carried out in social networks.
Event participants noted the importance of durability of this process. The meeting focused on enhancement of cashless payments, coordination of duties within the responsibility of appropriate bodies in increasing the use of POS-terminals. The discussion were attended by deputy minister of communications and information technologies Iltimas Mammadov, deputy minister of economic development Niyazi Safarov, deputy minister of transport Musa Penahov, first deputy president of the Central Bank Alim Guliyev, as well as representatives of business and banking sector.
