Baku-APA. The violent movement by the anti- government protestors could cause the country’s tourism sector 120 billion baht (3.71 billion U.S. dollars) in income losses, chairman of Federation of Thai Tourism Industries Kongkrish Hiranyakij said on Thursday, the Bangkok Post’s website reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.
"The political turmoil would drive away foreign tourists and the number of foreign arrivals this year is expected to drop by 10 percent to only 12.7 million to 14.1 million," Kongkrish said.
The number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand is expected to decline by 20 percent in the second and third quarters of 2010.
Hence, for the whole 2010 it is projected that the tourism sector’s revenues will fall from the previous target of 600 billion baht (18.553 billion U.S. dollars) to 480 billion baht (14. 842 billion U.S. dollars), he said.
