Central Bank of Azerbaijan boosts support for the banking system

Baku. Vahab Rzayev - APA-ECONOMICS. As of September 1, 2009, the refinancing facilities provided by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan for commercial banks totalled AZN 1 128.510 million for the past 12 months, up ten-fold on a year ago.

The figure represents a 5-fold rise from early this year.

The volume of refinancing was AZN 899.51 million for January-August this year. The average monthly growth in refinancing was AZN 112.44 million while the growth was AZN 347.85 million in August alone.

The main reason for a sharp rise in refinancing is to strengthen support to address the liquidity problems in the banking system.
