Toshiba Q1 group loss reaches $614 million

Bakuâ€“ APA-Economics. Japanese electronics giant Toshiba Corp. said Wednesday its first-quarter loss totaled 57.8 billion yen ($614 million), or 16.58 yen a share, widening from a loss of 11.6 billion yen, or 3.59 yen a share, in the same quarter a year before. Analysts had expected a loss of 52.6 billion yen, according to a Thomson Reuters survey.
Sales for the quarter were 1.34 trillion yen, down from 1.62 trillion yen in the year-ago period. Despite the operating loss for the April-June quarter was 37.6 billion yen, but Toshiba said its forecast from May for a 100 billion yen profit in the year to March 2010 remains unchanged.
