Azerbaijan finds total capital declining in the banking system

Baku. Vahab Rzayev - APA-Economics. As of April 1, Azerbaijan-based banksâ€™ total capital amounted to AZN 1 557.6 million, up 40.4% on a year ago up 4.4% on three months ago.

However, total capital declined by AZN 10.2 million or 0.7% in March 2009.

Despite a little downswing, what is eye-catching is that there has been decline in total capital in Azerbaijanâ€™s banking system during recent years.

A drop in total capital is primarily related to that fact that banks lowered capitalization perhaps because of the financial crisis.
