Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised alarms about the involvement of North Korean troops in the ongoing conflict, stressing the need for stronger defense cooperation to counter the growing threat on his X account, APA reports.
Zelenskyy’s comments came in response to reports indicating that Ukrainian forces are currently facing off against assaults involving North Korean soldiers, with the possibility that their numbers could increase in the future.
"This shows Putin can’t cope alone. He’s pulling others into a bigger war. Pyongyang disregards human life as much as Moscow does, paying Russia with people in exchange for goods and military technologies," Zelensky noted.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of fortifying Ukraine’s defense capabilities, particularly in the production of advanced weapons designed for stand-off warfare. “We need more drones, modern artillery, and long-range missiles to protect our people and weaken Russia’s ability to wage war from a distance,” he said.
The Ukrainian president also expressed gratitude to international partners for their support in bolstering Ukraine's defense production and increasing weapons manufacturing in their own countries. However, he urged that these efforts be scaled up to match the growing threats posed by Russia and its allies.
“Our arsenals must match the threats we face, and European industry is fully capable of achieving this. But we need to scale-up this cooperation – and these investments,” Zelenskyy concluded.
