“I believe it was good that we held a trilateral meeting in Switzerland. We respect and highly value our partners from the Middle East and other countries. However, in my opinion, if the war is taking place in Europe, then the venue for the meeting should also be in Europe,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a social media post regarding the Geneva negotiations, APA reports.

Zelenskyy noted that the talks were conducted within military and political groups, adding that more progress had been achieved on the military track compared to the political one.

“Because in the trilateral format, the military representatives discussed how a monitoring mission would be prepared in the event of a ceasefire. Once the political track opens these opportunities, this mechanism should come into effect. They discussed the details, technical aspects, and the capabilities of both sides. First and foremost, the role of the Americans, as they will have the leading role in the monitoring,” he stated.

Emphasizing that the role of Europeans is of great importance, the Ukrainian leader also noted that the presence of the United States in this process is essential: “However, I repeatedly emphasize that, in my opinion, we also need European representatives at the same time.”

The President announced that on the military track, the parties have moved closer to a draft document that includes all the details on how monitoring would be carried out immediately after a ceasefire.
