Baku-APA.The Portuguese Judiciary Police arrested two men and seized 600 kg of cocaine from a yacht sailing off the coast of Sagres, in the southern Algarve region 280 km south of Lisbon, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"The operation involved the cooperation of the Portuguese Navy and Air Force and is part of a wider framework to identify, combat and dismantle organized crime networks that have been using this modus operandi to introduce cocaine into Europe," the police said in a statement.
Two foreign men, aged 39 and 45, were arrested and will be questioned later today and subject to appropriate sanctions, they added.
On Sept. 10, the Judiciary Police seized 1.3 tons of cocaine with an estimated street value of 80 million euros (102 million U.S. dollars) in the Algarve region. On Sept. 26, a further 450 kg of cocaine was seized from a yacht sailing off the coast of Setubal, 30 km from Lisbon.
