Baku – APA. Seven people have been detained as police scour France for the gunmen behind the killing of 12 people at the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, France Press reported.

France's interior minister confirmed the number, shortly after Prime Minister Manuel Valls told RTL radio the two main suspects - brothers Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi - were known to intelligence services and were still on the run.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said seven people had been detained and a judicial source who refused to be named added these were men and women close to the suspects. Hamyd Mourad, an 18-year-old suspected of being an accomplice in the attack, handed himself in, with police sources saying he had seen his name "circulating on social media".

About 11.30am on Wednesday, the killers stormed the central Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo during an editorial meeting and killed 12 people and injured 11.

Earlier, Charlie Hebdo published caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.
