The people who lived in the area in ancient times cultivated agricultural products, especially grape. We have found seeds of grapes grown in different periods. The seed is being kept in the Georgian National Museum at present. The people who came from the south 8,000 years ago settled in this region and began to develop the agriculture here.  The culture of Shomu mound can also be found in Azerbaijan and Turkey as well.”

A specialist from the University of Toronto, Professor Stephen Batuki said that the excavations in Imir mound, agricultural tools, various objects, residential places, winemaking tools, a grape seed and monuments dating back to the Neolithic period were discovered. “We have not yet determined who lived on the mound of Imir in ancient times”, he said.
