Voting has begun for the presidential election in the Georgian parliament, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
The procedure is being conducted in the parliamentary session hall under the Central Election Commission's (CEC) supervision. Before the voting, CEC Chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili briefed the college members on the voting rules.
He stated that the voting process is open, ballots will be distributed to the college members by name, and voting will proceed alphabetically.
The voting will conclude at 14:00. Afterward, the CEC will finalize the election results.
The sole candidate for the presidency is Mikheil Kavelashvili.
The president will be elected by the Electoral College, which consists of 300 members. A minimum of 151 members' participation is required for the election to take place, and at least two-thirds of the total membership—200 votes—is needed for the president to be elected. The ruling Georgian Dream party holds 211 seats in the college.
The elected president will serve a five-year term.
