"The Ukrainian military is fighting bravely in Mariupol and communication is maintained with them," said Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Valerii Zaluzhnyi on his Facebook account, APA reports citing

The defense of Mariupol continues. Communication is stable and maintained with the units of the defense forces that bravely protect the city. I emphasize once again that the defense operations are not the subject of public discussion," Zaluzhnyi said.

He stressed that the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is doing everything possible to win in Mariupol and elsewhere.

Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to the head of Ukraine's presidential office, said Russia would increase pressure in the near future to seize Mariupol before May 9.

He noted that a two-week heavy war will take place in the Donbas region and the fate of the country will be determined by the second phase of the war.
