Hungary owes nothing to Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said in response to his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, APA reports.
The Hungarian minister stressed that Russia has not attacked any EU country and that Ukraine is simply defending itself.
“Our security is guaranteed not by Ukraine, but by NATO,” Szijjártó added.
Szijjártó had earlier stated that Ukraine is not defending Europe.
Andrii Sybiha, in turn, claimed that Ukraine is protecting Europe.
“Ukraine is preventing Russian tanks from moving through European streets. It seems that Russia’s rewards and energy revenues have caused amnesia,” Sybiha said, referring to Peter Szijjártó and drawing a comparison to the entry of Soviet tanks into Budapest in 1956.
