Russia says S-200 that Kyiv used for attempted attack on Crimean bridge intercepted -UPDATED

Kyiv has attempted to attack the Crimean bridge with the S-200 missile system converted into a strike version, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported, adding that the missile was detected and intercepted by the Russian air defense system, APA reports citing TASS.

"On August 12, at around 1:00 p.m. Moscow time, the Kyiv regime attempted to launch a terrorist strike on the Crimean bridge with the S-200 surface-to-air guided weapon converted into a strike version. The Ukrainian missile was promptly detected and intercepted in the air by Russia’s air defense system," the ministry said. The incident caused no damage or casualties, it added.

Earlier on Saturday Governor of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov reported via Telegram that two Ukrainian missiles had been shot down by the air defense system in the area of the Kerch Strait, adding that the bridge was not affected.

The Crimean bridge was attacked, APA reports citing Russian media.

Traffic on the bridge came to a halt.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the bridge was shot down by the Ukrainian army.

It was also reported that Ukraine tried to hit the bridge with an S-200 missile. According to the source, the attempt was prevented by Russian air defense systems.
