The above-mentioned statement was made in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“On 30 November 2012 former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili arrived at the Tbilisi international airport as a member of a state delegation to leave for Yerevan. Border controller discovered that passport, presented by the former PM, was issued for Levan Maisuradze and it had Vano Merabishvili’s photo. Investigation has been launched into the attempt of using fake documents and illegal crossing of border”, Nino Giorgobiani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said at a press conference.

According to her, no legal procedures were launched immediately and Vano Merabishvili was enabled to present his real passport not to hamper the visit of the state delegation.

“On the same evening, at 23:00, Merabishvili, back from the visit, left Tbilisi International airport along with the president’s escort and thus, no legal procedures could be carried out with regard to him”, Giorgobiani said.

According to her, Vano Merabishvili will be summoned for questioning.

Former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili calls the Interior Ministry’s statement ‘absurd’: “The government is seriously trying to persuade society that I was trying to leave for Yerevan along with a state delegation with a fake passport yesterday. Everybody knows that this government is trying to intimidate and detain everyone, but what they said today is beyond all levels”,
