Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has welcomed US President Donald Trump's decision to suspend foreign aid to his country, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.

According to the report, the head of government noted in a briefing that there have been four failed coup attempts in Georgia in the past three years, all of which involved foreign funding, including American funding.

“We have been discussing the issue of foreign financing continuously, especially after the initiative of the law on transparency. It is clear that there are cases of using foreign funds for malicious purposes in our country, including revolutionary activities. In the past three years, there have been four unsuccessful attempts to organize revolutions here, and all of them were supported by foreign funds, including America. The Trump administration must address this issue. During the discussions on the transparency law, some argued that we could not distinguish between Russia and the West. However, we emphasized that any attempt that contradicts national interests, regardless of its origin, must be fought. Whether the source is American or Russian, national sovereignty must be protected. The decision of President Trump’s administration confirmed our position that American funds are sometimes used to undermine the sovereignty of other nations,” Kobakhidze said.
