Hostages have been taken at a shopping mall in the centre of Dresden by an armed gunman who is still at large, APA reports citing the Mirror.
German police say people were held against their will inside a building in Germany's eastern city of Dresden.
Shots were reportedly fired and cops have said that there is currently a single female fatality.
Police urged people to avoid an area in the city and ordered Dresden's Christmas market to remain closed.
German tabloid Bild reported that a woman was killed. Police couldn't immediately be reached to confirm either report.
Radio Dresden earlier reported that shots had been fired at a building near the main train station.
