Germany handed over to Ukraine the second of four promised IRIS-T (SLM) air defence systems on April 16, APA reports citing Caliber.az.

In addition to the air defence system, Ukraine received 16 guided missiles, Der Spiegel reports.

As the newspaper stresses, it is still unclear when the remaining two IRIS-T systems promised by the federal government will arrive in Ukraine. They are yet to be manufactured.

The IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile system consists of three vehicles: a launcher on a military truck, a radar vehicle and a command vehicle.

The anti-aircraft missiles can hit targets at an altitude of up to 20 kilometres and a distance of up to 40 kilometres.

Ukraine has more than a dozen IRIS-T launchers.
