Georgia confirms date of presidential elections - UPDATED

The Georgian Parliament has confirmed the date for holding the presidential elections, APA reports.

The elections will be held on December 14, and the inauguration ceremony will take place on December 29.

The new President of Georgia will be elected by the Electoral College for a term of five years.

Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated during the parliamentary session that the term of the current President, Salome Zourabichvili, will be complete on December 16.

Note that starting this year, the President of Georgia will not be elected through a popular vote but will instead be chosen by an Electoral College, which includes members of parliament.

The election date and the draft of the relevant resolution, which should be presented at the session, were proposed by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Bureau, Shalva Papuashvili.

According to Papuashvili, the inauguration of the President will take place on December 29.

For the first time in Georgia, the President is elected indirectly - by the electoral college.
