Bulgaria has officially announced that it has stopped issuing multiple-entry Schengen visas to Russian citizens, "Vot tak" wrote, citing the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, APA reports.
According to the agency, special instructions have been sent to the Bulgarian consulates in Moscow and St. Petersburg on strict compliance with the European Commission's decision to tighten the Schengen zone visa regime for Russian citizens. The decision is legally binding for all EU member states.
The ministry also said that Bulgaria is ready to apply similar restrictions to Belarusian citizens.
"Bulgaria, taking into account the European Commission's decision to suspend the issuance of multiple-entry visas to Russia, is ready to discuss with other EU member states the issue of applying similar measures to Belarusian citizens. Belarus is one of Russia's closest allies," the agency said.
According to official statistics, Bulgaria issued 7.8 thousand Schengen visas to Russian citizens in 2024. It is not clear how many of them were multiple-entry.
Recall that on November 7, the European Commission adopted a decision to limit the issuance of multiple-entry Schengen visas to Russians. The new rules apply only to persons applying for a visa from the territory of Russia.
