European Union lawmakers voted on Wednesday choosing German politician Ursula von der Leyen to head the bloc's European Commission starting from 1 December, APA reports citing Sputnik.
Ursula von der Leyen needed a simple majority of votes to secure the victory. During the voting, 461 lawmakers voted in favour of von der Leyen's candidacy, 157 against, and 89 abstained from the vote.
The German politician has become the first woman to head the bloc's executive institution.
