Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. Congressman Alcee L. Hastings, Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission) called on Russia to give up the measures planned in connection with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, APA reports. The congressman in his statement called on Moscow to renounce its decisions.
“Moscow’s recent step violates Georgia’s sovereignty. Moscow states that it recognizes Georgia’s sovereignty, but such measures dispute Russia’s statementsâ€, he said.
Democrat Senator Benjamin Cardin also expressed his concern over Russia’s decision to strengthen the relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
“This step is punishing Georgia for striving for NATOâ€, he said.
