Baku-APA. The president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili conceded defeat for his United National Movement (UNM party) elections, adding his party would go into opposition. APA reports quoting “Novosti Gruziya” agency that he, as a president, will support the process so that the parliament start to work and should elect the chairman of the parliament and set up a new government. In remarks that increased the chances of a peaceful handover of power to a new government in the former Soviet republic after victory for the Georgian Dream coalition, he said his own party would now become the opposition: “As the leader of the United National Movement, I declare our party will go into opposition”. He added that his party would defend the gains and achievements of the period since Georgia threw off the post-Soviet old guard.

"For me there were fundamental unacceptable views held by the Georgian Dream coalition," Saakashvili said. "There are big differences between us. And we consider its views are completely false. But democracy works that way, so the majority of the Georgian people have decided this, and we respect their choice. Our gains and achievements during the Rose revolution are very important both from historical point of view and are very interesting period of the government history," he added.

The head of the Georgian State thanked his supporters and said the current way of development of Georgia has no alternative. “We believe in it, and will continue struggling, come what will”.
