Votes of opposition bloc in Georgian parliamentary elections increase

Baku – APA. The votes of the opposition bloc of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili “Georgian Dream” in the parliamentary elections in Georgia reached to 57.13% (85,894 votes) and the ruling party “United National Movement” - 38.14% (57, 336 votes) after counting 9.9% of protocols (373 of the 3766), the Central Election Commission of Georgia published on its website, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.

Data reflect the results of the voting on proportional system. “Georgian Dream” leads in parliamentary elections on single-mandate constituencies – 27:25. The results of the elections on 21 constituencies have not been announced yet.

New parliament will include 150 members elected due to proportional and majority systems. Two electoral blocs and 14 parties have been registered for participation in the elections. 2805 candidates are struggling for150 seats. Electoral barrier for parties have been defined at 5% of the votes.

The main struggle is expected between the ruling party “United National Movement” and the electoral bloc Bidzina Ivanishvili “Georgian dream”. 60 000 local and international observers will supervise the elections. The reason of such serious monitoring is that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is going to conclude his term as a president in 2013. According to the new constitutional norms, the authorities of prime minister in Georgia will be increased by means of reducing president’s authorities. And the party or electoral bloc, which will win in the elections, will put candidacy of its representative for the prime minister next year.
