Baku-APA. France’s jobless number exceeded 3 million in August for the first time since 1999, official data showed on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
According to the labor ministry’s monthly report, 23,900 more unemployed people entered the sluggish domestic labor market, up 0.8 percent compared to July, the 16th consecutive monthly rise.
Last month, the total number of jobless stood at more than 3 million, a record high in 13 years. On a yearly basis, the figure jumped by 9.2 percent.
"These three million jobseekers reflect the failure of economic and social policies over previous years," the ministry said in a statement.
"Faced with this harsh situation, the government is committed to implementing as quickly as possible reforms in the social roadmap," it added.
