Britain says 2011-12 crucial in war in Afghanistan

Baku â€“ APA. Britain’s defense secretary says 2011 and 2012 are crucial in the fight against the Afghan insurgency and NATO forces are now strong enough to make a lasting difference in the war against the Taliban, APA reports quoting â€œAssociated Pressâ€.
Liam Fox said Wednesday that any drawdown of British troops serving with NATO this year will be based on conditions on the ground and that a change in their role from combatting insurgents to training Afghan forces may take place over the next two years.
Britain’s prime minister has said his country’s troops will end their combat role in Afghanistan by 2015. There are about 10,000 British troops in Afghanistan, mainly in southern Helmand province.
