Baku-APA. Slovenian Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Henrik Gjerkes resigned Tuesday after he was caught drunk driving, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Speaking to reporters, Gjerkes said that his behavior was completely unacceptable for a minister and that Prime Minister Borut Pahor has accepted his resignation.

Gjerkes was caught drunk driving on Monday night after he was stopped by police. His breath alcohol content was 0.64 mg/l. The allowed level is 0.24 mg/l.

Expressing regret over the incident, Gjerkes stressed that his resignation had nothing to do with the quality of his work as minister. He hopes to be able to return to academia.
