Baku-APA. Italian transport workers have found an explosive device under a seat in an empty carriage on a train, which was bound for the capital, Rome, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The police said on Tuesday the device, hidden in a shoebox, was made of gunpowder and metal tubes but it did not explode since it did not have a detonator.

"The detonator was missing. It was made up of two tubes connected by wires with an antenna," AFP quoted Salvatore Cagnazzo, head of operational command in Rome, as saying.

The device was found at around 10:00 a.m. local time in a service area near the northeast outskirts of the city.

Officers were called "immediately" and isolated the area, where the bomb was found but the station was not evacuated.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bomb and authorities have not speculated on a motive for any possible attack on the metro system.

The US and some European countries have recently issued travel alerts for their citizens over what they claim to be potential terrorist attacks.
