Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at the parliament that Prime Minister expressed his protest against the Armenian genocide claims and said if the draft resolution is passed by the House of Representatives, it will cause serious problems in Turkey-US relations. Ahmet Davutoglu mentioned that in his phone talk with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton he also expressed Ankara’s concern.

According to Turkish Foreign Minister, the probability of bringing the so-called “Armenian genocide” draft resolution into the agenda of the House of Representatives has not been eliminated.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (Democratic Party), who will be succeeded by John Boehner (Republican) in January, 2011, offered to discuss the “Armenian genocide” resolution at the presidium of the House of Representatives.

Philip Crowley, Assistant Secretary of State stated that Washington is “strictly against” this act and will work to prevent it.

The draft resolution was passed by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress in March.
