Sarkozy plans to gather internet leaders on G8 sideline: report

Baku-APA. French President Nicolas Sarkozy considered to gather famous website founders and bloggers from G8 states on sidelines of G8 summit scheduled for 2011, local media reported on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

A famous French lawyer blogger Maitre Eolas, among guests of the president in the Elysee Palace on Thursday, told local reporters that Sarkozy revealed the idea amid conclusions of their lunch meeting.

Dubbed as "Internet G8", the professional assembly will rally internet leaders from eight major economic powers in French city Deauville and be focused on the development of digital economy and internet regulation.

France aims to upgrade itself as a leading digital powerhouse by 2012, and has outlined, since 2008, action plans to boost internet access for citizens, develop production and service of digital contents, and to modernize the governance of the digital economy.

In addition to professional consultation among G8 internet leaders, Sarkozy also projected to approve the revised version of HADOPI 3 law which aims to control internet access and protect copyright in respect of the utility of cyber space.

Also on the president’s agenda was the establishment of French Digital Council, which would work as an advisory organ for internet-related or digital texts, local media quoted the lunch participant as saying.
