Baku – APA. For the first time since Nazi forces ended their occupation at the end of World War Two, German combat troops will be officially stationed in France, APA reports quoting “The Voice of America”.
A German battalion is to be stationed outside Strasbourg, near the German border, as part of a Franco-German brigade.
A ceremony was to be held Friday to mark the event, which marks the efforts between the two European powers to bury their former differences.
The 6,000-strong brigade was formed in 1989, but until now German troops had not been stationed on French soil.
Plans for the brigade were first agreed on in 2009 between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
