Baku – APA. Fatmir Sejdiu, the country’s first president since 2008 secession from Serbia, steps down following court decision, APA reports quoting “Guardian”.
Kosovo’s first president since secession from Serbia in 2008, Fatmir Sejdiu, resigned for violating the constitution by holding office and leadership of his party simultaneously, saying he had decided to "respect the institutions". He did not feel he had done wrong but the constitutional court "thought otherwise". Three of its nine members are international judges appointed by the European court of human rights. Sejdiu, 59, is head of the Democratic league, and has a coalition deal with prime minister Hashim Thaci, whose Democratic party is largest in the 120-seat parliament.
