The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) can strengthen Europe’s energy security and decarbonization by increasing output capacity, APA-Economics reports, citing the TAP consortium.
According to the information, an additional 1.2 billion cubic meters (annual) of supply through the pipeline is planned for 2026.
“This first expansion phase, if there is market interest, may allow for further increases in supplies through market tests,” the report notes.
It is reported that 50 billion cubic meters of gas have already been transported through the pipeline.
Recall that Azerbaijani gas is transported to Europe via the TAP pipeline. Commercial transportation of "blue fuel" through the 878-kilometer gas pipeline section of the Southern Gas Corridor began on December 31, 2020.
Within the framework of the "Shah Deniz-2" project, which is part of the Southern Gas Corridor project, the TAP pipeline initially envisages the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Europe. This pipeline extends to southern Italy, crossing from Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea. The pipeline's capacity allows it to double its throughput capacity to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
